This chapter provides an overview of the AMI tools that automate this process and some examples of their use.

to build an image, the -s switch to ec2-bundle-vol has to be AT LEAST the size of df /dev/sda1 Used (+512MB for good measure)

Create a bundled AMI by taking a snapshot of the local machine’s root file system, compressing, encrypting and signing the snapshot

Unfortunately nothing you could have done on your end – short of move instances. This is a bug in our software – that we haven’t seen until very recently. We are working on a fix…but it should be rather unlike to strike again.
